SASKATOON Saskatchewan's horse racing industry will soon have to run without provincial grants.
The Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority says it will cut all grants for horse racing after this summer's racing season wraps up.
Last year, the Crown authority gave $1.5 million to the industry while collecting $857,000 in taxes from wagers.
Liquor and Gaming spokesperson David Morris says paying money to the horse racing industry just doesn't fit within the province's budget anymore.
Dallas Pole, executive director of the Saskatchewan Horse Federation, says the funding cut will hit breeders, trainers and other employees.
She says the organization will lobby the province to reinstate the grants.
